Friendship Lives on Curiosity

Crammed into a corner of the stadium with several thousand other Duck fans in an otherwise hostile environment, something happened that’s not unusual when you gather people who share a common interest. As the game progressed, with each great play or touchdown, the fans around me – strangers to me and each other - would exchange high fives, slap each other on the back, and even hug in their delirious joy. …

New Evangelization, New Paradigm

In October, the bishops of the world will meet to discuss the New Evangelization. Bl. John Paul II reminded us that evangelization cannot be “new” in the sense of content – it is always the same – the message of Paul to his listeners in the synagogue 2000 years ago: that Jesus is the climax and fulfillment of salvation history, not only for Jews but for Gentiles. …

Caught Up in the Drama of Easter

You may have noticed that Jesus doesn’t call him that. Thomas is not chided by the Risen Lord for doubting. Jesus, appearing before Thomas with pierced limbs and side, says “do not be unbelieving, but believe.”

I’d propose that what our society needs today is a lot more doubt. …

For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Which one of you would hand his son a stone when he asks for a loaf of bread, or a snake when he asks for a fish? If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him.”
